Head of JLABS @ Shanghai

Sharon Chan is the Head of JLABS @ Shanghai. In this role, Sharon is responsible for setting the strategic direction and overseeing all operational activities for JLABS @ Shanghai, including managing JLABS @ Shanghai and, in conjunction with our Asia Pacific partners and our sector business partners, implementing appropriate educational programming and driving high quality company sourcing from innovation markets across the Asia Pacific region.  Drawing on 15 years of experience in the Asia Pacific region, Sharon is creating strategic partnerships with corporate, academic, government and industry organizations, building a strong and dynamic network of innovation for patients and consumers. 

Sharon joins the JLABS team from Aeras in Beijing where she launched that office for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, before receiving a promotion to Head of Asia. In this role, she implemented strategy, coordinated research partners and programs, and led office and local operations.  She was also instrumental in navigating legal and compliance frameworks, establishing >15 local partnerships including those with local biotechs and pharma, China CDC, Shanghai CDC, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital and Fudan University, and developing, cultivating, and managing 750+ relationships. Prior to Aeras, she was a member of the Senior Leadership and Management Team for Baxter in Shanghai, providing strategic direction for short‐ and long‐term country growth and making deals for the company. Sharon holds prominent leadership appointments as a board member of Right to Thrive, in Kenya (since 2016), and as a committee member of the China-Oxford Scholarship Fund in Shanghai and Beijing, since 2006. She also teaches “Introduction to Vaccines:  History, Development and Impact” at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the Dept. of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology

Sharon received a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH), Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA; a Master Degree in BusinesAdministration (Executive MBA),IE Business School, Madrid, Spain; a Doctorate Degree in Biochemistry anCardiovascular Medicine (DPhil), University of Oxford, UK; and a Master Degree in Molecular Biology and Cellular Biochemistry (MBioChem),University of Oxford, UK.
