Self Care Catalysts

JLABS @ Toronto

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

Pharmaceutical companies often depend on clinical trial data for drug development and commercialization. Randomized controlled trials however, only measure efficacy. Real-world patient data, which measures effectiveness, is not currently being captured - which presents a huge gap between actual patient experience and the healthcare industry. Self Care Catalysts provides pharmaceutical companies with longitudinal real-world evidence from patients to drive innovation towards better care delivery and health outcomes.

How is what you're doing different than other attempts to solve this problem?

Self Care Catalysts' patient-first approach has enabled them to create a unique niche in the patient behavioural analytics industry. Their technology, combined with a high-touch engagement approach, provides a integrated SaaS platform that captures and impacts behavioural drivers that informs and supports pharmaceutical companies’ entire product lifecycle: from pre-clinical, clinical research, pre-commercialization, commercialization, and post-marketing. Key differentiators include exclusive partnerships with patient advocacy organizations, IP-pending behavioural analytics framework, and a true self-care management tool that is co-designed with patients.

Why are you passionate about what you're working on?

I have always believed that patients will drive the future of healthcare. However, when we talk about health, it is always about the latest pharmaceutical discovery, the work of doctors, and ways to improve hospital systems; we never hear from the ultimate recipients of healthcare: the patients. At Self Care Catalysts, we have the opportunity to listen to patients directly, and as a result map their health behaviors to inform the industry with insights that reflect real-world patient experience. There is no better harmony than that between patient engagement, and the data, intelligence, and insights that their communities fuel.

What achievement are you most proud of?

I am proud that I have built a company based on a “patient-first” philosophy, and a team that stands behind the same belief. Our work seeks to disrupt the status quo by enabling patients to be drivers for healthcare transformation by leveraging their own health data, instead of simply being recipients of care. When we hear from patients that “no one saw value in what I have to say about my experience, until now” - that is very rewarding.
