Learn more about JLABS @ LabCentral Resident Jake Becraft, PhD, Co-founder, CEO Strand Therapeutics Inc.

As a CEO, what’s your advice for a researcher who wants to launch a startup?

Learn. Take entrepreneurship classes. Do pitch competitions. Reach out to startup CEOs to hear their stories and process. Read books on starting companies. And most importantly: take the first step and try. It will never happen if you never take a step towards it in earnest.

How has being a resident of JLABS @ LabCentral helped you advance your company?

Community. Other CEOs and founders who can help weigh in on issues. JPALs for getting pharma insight and selling into pharma R&D. And even the investors we meet through the JLABs CEO Summits are great contacts!

What are you reading, listening, or watching that you would recommend?

How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. The Gene by Siddhartha Mukherjee. Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake. Save the Cat by Blake Snyder. I Contain Multitudes by Ed Yong. Good Economics for Hard Times by Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo. Sapiens, Homo Deus, and 21 Questions for the 21st Century by Yuval Noah Harari (I actually have a much longer quarantine reading list I have worked through and highly recommend)
