As a startup it can be easy to focus on the science until signing a big deal, but when you are finally ready to go to market, have you thought about what you need in order to be successful? Health technology assessments (HTA), pricing, and working with payers are all key steps in ensuring your technology gets where it matters most –to the patients.

As a healthcare entrepreneur in the pharmaceutical sector, it is important to develop technologies that are addressing an unmet need and have the evidence needed for market access. It is also vital that you begin thinking about market access before your science gets too far down the road.

Speakers' Biographies:
Atul Goela | Director, Pharmaceutical Benefits, Sun Life Financial
Atul Goela joined Sun Life Financial Canada in October 2014 as a Product Director, Pharmaceutical Benefits. He is a key contributor to the pharmaceutical strategy and demonstrates Sun Life's overall thought leadership in this field as part of his duties, he participates in client meetings, presents at conferences and strengthens Sun Life’s industry relations. Prior to joining Sun Life Financial, Atul worked at Green Shield Canada as senior pharmacy services consultant. In addition to being a practicing pharmacist, Atul also spent time at Shoppers Drug Mart's head office. The combination of Atul's extensive experience in the pharmacy and pharmacy benefits management arena, contributes to Sun Life's continued leadership in the pharmaceutical benefits space. Atul holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Toronto.

Debbie Milliken | Managing Director Healthcare Consulting, MILLREED Enterprises Ltd.
Debbie Milliken is Managing Director Healthcare Consulting at MILLREED Enterprises Ltd. She is a registered pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists and has a broad base of public and private sector experience across the healthcare sector with expertise in the areas of pharmaceuticals, patient support programs, reimbursement strategy, healthcare policy, drug evaluation. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Toronto and completed an Accredited Canadian Pharmacy Residency (ACPR) program. She has worked in hospital, government, government agency and the pharmaceutical industry. Debbie was the Director, Provincial Reimbursement Drug Programs at Cancer Care Ontario for 6 years, where she managed the province’s formulary for intravenously administered cancer medications (New Drug Funding Program). Within the pharmaceutical industry, Debbie has worked at SmithKline Beecham, GlaxoSmithKline, and Roche and held a variety of positions in sales, reimbursement, government relations, and patient programs. She has worked with the Ontario Government and other participating jurisdictions on the Pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (PCPA).

Allan F. Miranda Ph.D., MBA | Reimbursement Lead Immunology and Primary Care, Janssen Canada
Dr. Miranda is responsible for HECOR and Market Access for the Immunology (REMICADE, SIMPONI, STELARA) and Primary Care portfolios at Janssen Canada. Allan has been with Janssen Canada for more than twelve years and in his current role for 7 years. In addition to his experience in ACCESS, Allan held positions of increasing responsibility in Business Development and Marketing at Janssen. Prior to joining Janssen, Allan worked in Licensing and Business Development for PARTEQ Innovations, the technology transfer office at Queen’s University at Kingston as well as Biotechnology and Specialty Pharmaceutical companies across Canada. Allan received his Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology from Queen’s University at Kingston and his MBA from McGill University in Finance and Strategy. Allan is a member of the Licensing Executive Society and ISPOR. He is passionate about bringing novel health technologies to the Canadian market for the benefit of patients.

Sherry O’Quinn | Managing Principal, Morse Consulting Inc.
Sherry O’Quinn is the Managing Principal at Morse Consulting Inc. She specializes in helping clients understand the market access environment and developing strategies to optimize reimbursement success. Prior to embarking into consulting, Sherry spent over 20 years working in the public health care sector, including 13 years with the Ontario Public Drug Programs (OPDP) where she was most recently responsible for leading the negotiation of product listing agreements, and acting as the operational co-lead to the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA). Sherry was integrally involved in the creation of the Office of the pCPA established in 2015. In her time at OPDP she led over 100 Ontario specific negotiations and 20 pCPA negotiations. Prior to joining government, she worked at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as a hospital pharmacist and has also worked in retail pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry.

Simon Lee | Chief Negotiator, OPDP
Simon Lee is the Chief Negotiator for the Ontario Public Drug Programs. Simon and his passionate team represent the Ontario Public Drug Programs within the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA). The team is responsible for leading negotiations with pharmaceutical manufacturers on behalf of the pCPA, as well as negotiations and contracting for Ontario specific agreements. Simon is a pharmacist by training, and has a broad experience as a clinician in both hospital and community pharmacy practice. Prior to joining the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Simon held various roles and was responsible for sales, operations, clinical programs and formulary management in the private drug plan industry.
