From Scientist to CEO

Are leaders born or made? Some believe that great leaders are hard-wired with charisma, vision and a natural capacity to lead. Others believe that extraordinary job competence automatically prepares them to be outstanding managers. In many cases, new managers find themselves in roles for which they are unprepared. As a result, they may avoid managing much at all, or continue to do things as they see fit without realizing how they are impacting their team. Research indicates that leadership is indeed a skill that can be learned, and many of us have the potential to become good, or even great leaders.

If you are leading a fast growing organization as a founder, have recently been promoted to a position of leadership, or just want to brush up on your management skills, this workshop will guide you along the initial, critical steps towards transitioning into leadership. In this lunchtime session you will learn how to:

John Bates Kelly Huang | Corporate Learning Facilitator at Harvard Business Publishing
Kelly C. Huang brings over 25 years of executive, teaching and management consulting experience to her current role as a Corporate Learning Facilitator at Harvard Business Publishing. Harvard Business Publishing leverages the management insight, thought leadership, and expertise of Harvard Business School faculty and Harvard Business Review authors to provide solutions that are relevant to today’s most pressing business challenges.
Kelly started her career in sales and marketing IBM and Monsanto. Since 2009, she has also designed and delivered marketing and entrepreneurship curriculum for UCSD Extension and CONNECT. More recently she has worked closely with high-technology and biotechnology start-ups in San Diego and Silicon Valley to devise partnerships and product launch strategies.
