It can be tricky to communicate the full potential of your discoveries without spilling the secret sauce. Join us every other week for sessions on learning the tricks of the trade in preparing a non-confidential deck and executive summary. Experts of the craft will share practical tips on becoming more effective in communicating your story to Angel investors and VCs, increasing your chances of successful fundraising.

Peter van der Velden, MBA, MSc, BSc | Managing General Partner, Lumira Capital
Peter is the Managing General Partner of Lumira Capital, Canada's largest and most active dedicated healthcare venture capital investor. Peter brings to Lumira 27 years of passionate engagement in Canada's innovation ecosystem where he has participated as an operator, investor, service provider and mentor. Lumira is currently investing from two institutional venture capital funds as well as its own partners funds and has completed 18 new investments, (12 in Canada) in the past three years. Lumira's prior Fund enjoyed significant success, including two billion dollar plus exits (sale of Pharmasset to Gilead and the sale of Mako Surgical to Stryker). Peter is a very active volunteer in the communities in which he works and plays. He is a frequent lecturer at Canadian universities on themes related to venture capital, innovation and healthcare and he is on the board of a number of not-for-profits including the Canadian Venture and Private Equity Association where he is a director and the immediate past President. In 2014 Peter was appointed to the Government of Ontario's, Ontario Health Innovation Council whose mission is to enhance the adoption of Ontario based innovation by the Ontario health care system and in 2014 he travelled to India on a state visit with his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada to explore opportunities for collaboration and to speak on topics related to innovation and venture capital. Peter holds degrees from the Schulich School of Business (MBA finance and policy) and Queen's University (MSc (pathology), BSc (honours life sciences)). Peter's current and recent past corporate board roles include: Milcom Ventures, Spinal Kinetics, CML Healthcare, First Aid Shot Therapy, Life Sciences Ontario, and the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association.
