JLABS allowed Arcturus the infrastructure and equipment to quickly generate proof of concept data. We also appreciated the community of entrepreneurs and other mentors that JLABS offered – a great environment to progress challenging science. In less than 2 years we were able to graduate and expand operations
We recently sold our last company, Tem Systems (Rotem), that was started at JLABS S an Diego about 5 years ago. When it came time to start our new company, CeleCor, I of course turned to JLABS San Diego and was delighted they accepted us back. I appreciate the wide range of support, services, great facilities, business model, and outstanding staff that JLABS provides new companies. I am confident, with JLABS support, we will also make CeleCor a great success. Thank you to JNJ, Melinda, and her team for creating such an amazing environments to nurture new companies in San Diego, and now around the US and the world.

What makes JLABS San Diego unique:
San Diego is home to a world-renowned biotech industry - from top class research institutions to powerhouse biotech companies and everything in between. In January 2012, it became home to the flagship JLABS site, launched by Johnson & Johnson at its Janssen West Coast Research & Development facility in La Jolla, CA. With the advantage of existing R&D infrastructure, mentorship, business and operations services onsite at Janssen, JLABS developed the first in a network of eight innovation ecosystems, enabling and empowering innovators to create and accelerate the delivery of life-saving, life-enhancing health and wellness solutions to patients around the world. JLABS provides a unique environment where life science entrepreneurs have access to the vast expertise within Johnson & Johnson, educational programs, business and operational services and specialized equipment to support the development of their science from concept to commercialization, all while retaining their intellectual property and decision-making freedom in a “no-strings-attached” model.
San Diego has a combination of resources and networks that allow startups to thrive. In 2014, Forbes named San Diego the number 1 place to start a business1 and in 2015 was selected as one of four cities in the world to star in National Geographic’s Smart Cities documentary. As a major biotech stronghold, the city is home to a cluster of world class research institutes, the majority of which are within a mile or two of the JLABS site. It is one of three cities that regularly host the BIO International Convention which draws the top leaders in life science from around the globe to San Diego.
San Diego is on the cutting edge in numerous scientific areas, and is a front runner in the fields of genomics and precision medicine. It is the nation’s second-leading center for genomics research and products in the US. The city also has a burgeoning precision medicine hub, with world-renowned experts such as Eric Topol, from the Scripps Research Institute, and Razelle Kurzrock, from University of California San Diego. Furthermore, San Diego was host of the Precision Medicine Leaders Summit in August 2017 and JLABS San Diego counts four precision medicine companies as part of its ecosystem.
The strong sense of community and entrepreneurship San Diego is known for is apparent at JLABS San Diego. Beyond the labs, JLABS provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to make valuable connections with fellow innovators, investors, industry leaders and more at the variety of networking, education, scientific, investor and social events held onsite. In addition to this strong ecosystem, JLABS residents also receive exclusive mentorship from Johnson & Johnson experts who are available as a resource and to identify potential areas of partnership. The JLABS San Diego community is a highly interactive and vibrant community with seven collaborations established between JLABS resident companies. Residents also have formed relationships with other large pharmaceutical companies upon graduation from JLABS.
