Copenhagen, Denmark, November 5, 2018 — Johnson & Johnson Innovation, JLABS (JLABS) announced today that London-based AlphaBiomics, a precision medicine company, has been selected as the winner of the European Innovation QuickFire Challenge. The Challenge was designed to identify innovators with the best idea, technology, or solution that has the potential to improve human healthcare and impact the European life sciences ecosystem.
AlphaBiomics develops microbiome-based precision medicine solutions to predict drug response and improve drug therapy. By deciphering how gut microbiome influences individual responses to medicines, AlphaBiomics predicts how well individuals will respond to particular therapies and designs companion therapeutics to boost patient response to their medicines. AlphaBiomics will employ their platform to deliver safer and more efficacious immunotherapy in autoimmune diseases.
As the winner of the European Innovation QuickFire Challenge, AlphaBiomics will receive €100,000 in grant funding to further advance its solutions in human healthcare as well as a voucher for one year of residency at an available JLABS location. A JLABS residency includes a laboratory bench, workstation and access to the global JLABS community.
The QuickFire Challenges are managed by JLABS, a global network of open innovation ecosystems, enabling and empowering innovators across a broad healthcare spectrum including pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer and health tech sectors to create and accelerate the delivery of life-saving, life-enhancing health and wellness solutions to patients around the world.
