Nashville, TN, April 6, 2019 – Today, during the opening session at AORN Expo in Nashville, Tennessee over 5,000 Perioperative Registered Nurses heard from Melissa Fischer, Senior Manager of Clinical Education, and a registered nurse, on the long-term commitment of Johnson & Johnson to supporting nurses. During her remarks, Melissa announced the first-ever Johnson & Johnson Nurses Innovate QuickFire Challenge in Perioperative Care, launched together with AORN and Johnson & Johnson Innovation - JLABS.

The challenge invites nurses around the world to submit unique ideas for new devices, consumer products, health technologies, protocols, preventative & community health approaches, and screening tools for perioperative care (pre, post, intra) with the potential to profoundly impact patient care and change human health.

The awardee(s) of the Challenge will receive up to $100,000 in grant funding; mentoring and support from the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies; and access to the Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS ecosystem to help bring their ideas to life.

Lynda Benton, Senior Director of Corporate Equity was in attendance and remarked, “Johnson & Johnson has supported the nursing profession for over 120 years because we believe that nurses are the backbone of healthcare systems around the world and are uniquely positioned to change human health. As we strive to change the trajectory of health for humanity, Johnson & Johnson is proud to support and elevate the visibility and impact of nursing by championing nurse-led innovation, supporting skills development, developing nurse leaders and strengthening nurse resiliency through unique opportunities like the Nurses Innovate QuickFire Challenge.” Lynda and her team worked closely with AORN to bring this unique opportunity forward.

Following her speech, Melissa commented, “I am overwhelmed by the positive reaction the attendees had to this announcement. I am very excited to engage with the nurses this week and can’t wait to see some of the ideas these innovative care providers will bring forward.”
