May 6, 2021 — In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, together with the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), announced today that Chris Recinos of the Nurse Leader Network as well as Bre Loughlin and Tracy Zvenyach, co-founders of Nurse Disrupted have been selected as the awardees in Johnson & Johnson Nurses Innovate QuickFire Challenge on Mental Health.
The challenge invited nurses and nursing students worldwide to submit their nurse-led novel concepts, education programs, protocols, prevention or treatment approaches, screening tools, and consumer product ideas with the power to potentially transform mental health care and well-being for their fellow healthcare professionals or the patients they serve amid the current pandemic environment and beyond.
To advance their research, Nurse Leader Network and Nurse Disrupted will receive a combined total of $100,000 in grant funding, mentoring from experts across the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, and access to the Johnson & Johnson Innovation - JLABS ecosystem.
“Hello Harmony” is a texting bot app designed for adolescents that serves as a “virtual friend” through a scenario-based game that aims to help those in need of mental health support. The app intends to help normalize feelings of loneliness, shame, fear, and sadness and aims to equip participants with skills and strategies to address these feelings.
Nurse Disrupted developed The Care Station with the aim to bridge the health digital divide to connect patients and care providers. In resource deserts there is no internet, no IT team, no budget, no time, and no or limited onsite healthcare staff. The Care Station is a low-cost, one-touch video connection that ships in a single box and arrives ready to plug in and use at care locations to connect people to health and mental health care providers.
The QuickFire Challenges are managed by Johnson & Johnson Innovation—JLABS, with the goal to address today’s greatest health care challenges.
