Why I'm a JPAL
I'm a JPAL because I have a passion for science, drug discovery, learning and sharing.
George currently heads Infectious Disease discovery at Janssen’s research site in South San Francisco. He completed his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He then pursued postdoctoral research as a Medical Research Council of Canada Centennial Fellow at the Fox chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia USA. In 1996 he was recruited by Boehringer Ingelheim to their infectious disease research center in Montreal, Canada where over 19 years he had increasing levels of responsibility and lead project teams in antiviral, infectious disease and immunomodulatory areas from early discovery to NDA submission. In 2015, he joined Gilead Sciences as Senior Director to lead HIV preclinical and clinical virology research. Prior to joining Janssen, George was Head of Biology at the Merck Cambridge Exploratory Science Center in 2017 where he led a multidisciplinary team exploring novel drug concepts based on the microbiome and host immune system.
