BIO Janine Arts, PhD, Sr Director Oncology Scientific Innovation: Janine Arts is currently Sr Director Oncology Scientific Innovation at the J&J Innovation Centre, driving external drug discovery strategy and sourcing innovative projects in Europe. Janine has over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In her previous role Janine lead a global multidisciplinary team, establishing the Janssen strategy and pipeline in colorectal cancer. Prior to 2010, Janine served as head of the Oncology discovery team in Belgium, and was responsible for the small molecule discovery portfolio from exploratory research to IND candidate selection. During this time, Janine also co- lead the global integration of the Janssen Oncology discovery organization. Thus far four novel therapeutics discovered by Janine and her teams progressed into clinical development, of which Balversa received approval for urothelial carcinoma. She received the J&J Hoffman Award for research that led to the discovery of the HDAC inhibitor Quisinostat, which is currently in phase 2. Janine holds a PhD from Leiden University and held an academic research position at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam prior to joining the Janssen Research Foundation. She has co-authored over 50 publications and patents.
