Countdown to the JLABS @ Shanghai Grand Opening

The countdown to the Grand Opening of the JLABS @ Shanghai, our first JLABS facility in the Asia Pacific region, has begun! It’s hard to believe that when we open our doors on June 27 at Shanghai's Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park , it will have only been a year and half since we first announced our collaboration with the Shanghai Municipal Government, Pudong New Area Government and Shanghai Pharma Engine Company Ltd to launch a 4,400 square meter facility – our largest JLABS to date.

JLABS @ Shanghai will be big enough to house up 50 life science and healthcare startups equipped with cutting-edge, modular and scalable laboratories, equipment, and a collaboration space. Our companies will also benefit from the support of a dedicated onsite operations team, educational programming, business services, and will have access to resources including scientific, industry and capital funding expertise.

As the Head of JLABS @ Shanghai, I am honored to be a part of this new milestone in our company’s 133-year-old history. Johnson & Johnson has invested significantly in China for more than 35 years to meet its rapidly evolving healthcare needs. [1] Our commitment to finding and nurturing the best science and technology in the world’s innovation hotspots is bolstered with our expanded presence in Shanghai.

I believe Shanghai has one of the country’s highest concentrations of medical research and development resources, from science parks and universities to medical schools – all of which contribute to the surrounding innovation ecosystem and a significant talent pool that JLABS @ Shanghai plans to be a part of. As a center for life science innovation, we’re already seeing many companies emerging in areas related to gene therapy, regenerative medicine, the microbiome and artificial intelligence.

Our new JLABS @ Shanghai team is poised to help these scientists and entrepreneurs develop and market cutting-edge products and technologies that have the potential to propel healthcare forward not just in our region, but around the world.

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the JLABS @ Shanghai team:

So, if you're an entrepreneur and have a great idea, a VC that supports early-stage transformational research, or another biotech, pharma, or health tech company who shares our goal, I would love to hear from you. Let’s work together.

Be sure to check back to learn more about our Grand Opening later this month. I look forward to updating you in the coming weeks on all the good work underway.
