Our story:


As the first JLABS in Europe, JLABS @ BE accommodates life science start-ups focused on innovations across the entire healthcare spectrum, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, consumer and health technology.

JLABS @ BE is located at the heart of the Beerse Janssen R&D Campus where Dr. Paul Janssen – one of the 20th century's most innovative and productive pharmaceutical researchers – first established Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V. more than six decades ago, laying the foundation for the discovery and development of more than 80 new medicines during his lifetime.

With Europe’s pharma and biotech sector expected to grow to €206 Billion by 2022 (Evaluate Ltd), there has never been a better time for a start-up to turn their great idea into the next game-changing app, therapy, medical device, medicine or discovery.

Inspired by Dr. Janssen's famous call-to-action, “The patients are waiting," the goal of JLABS @ BE is to attract the best and brightest talent in science and technology, and to work with European partners in healthcare to help start new, highly innovative companies, providing a wealth of incubation options for our partners and insights to new innovation for our businesses around the globe.

Key equipment

Every JLABS location features state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation and equipment—what new resident companies need to get up and running on day one.

This capital efficient model takes time and investment out of the equation, eliminating the normal setup typically required of a start-up. We even provide training on equipment like UPLCs, FPLCs, FACs, among others.

  • Cell Culture Labs (BS1 and BSL2):

    Biosafety Cabinets, Incubators, Shakers, Centrifuges, Microscopes

  • Chemistry Labs:

    Fume Hoods, HPLC, LCMS, Lyophilizer
